    Just another Jaguar XJ-S addict in Minnesota USA. I love early black bumper cars. So far I have three 1975 XJ-S, a 1976 XJ-S and a 1978 XJ-S. Previously I had a 1986 XJ-SC and a 1988 XJS Coupe.

    Auction description:

The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025, Birmingham

    Lot Number: 723

    1975 Jaguar XJ-S V12 RHD Pre-HE Automatic Project

    JAGUAR XJ-S V12

    Registration Number NDU 402P

    Chassis Number UF2W50028BW

    Engine Number 8S1197LA

    Transmission Automatic

    Body Colour Silver Grey

    1975 Jaguar XJ-S V12 LHD Pre-HE Automatic

Believed to be one of the very earliest production XJ-S models, chassis number #28 is supplied with its Heritage Certificate and retains its original UK registration number, NDU 402P.

Originally finished in Silver Grey and built in right-hand drive, this example is currently presented in black with left-hand drive configuration

Fitted with Jaguar’s 5.3-litre V12 engine coupled to a 3-speed automatic transmission, the XJ-S offered effortless grand touring ability and refinement

Understood to have been used in period as an experimental and emissions test vehicle in the US, with changes to specification carried out during its early life

Imported back to the UK with a NOVA certificate, supplied with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and documents detailing its history, however, the car now requires full restoration and is offered as a stalled project

A rare opportunity to acquire one of the earliest XJ-S models produced, with unique early history and potential for restoration into a highly significant collectors’ car

I sold this car with body number two (5W1002) back to England in 2020. No idea how it's history as an extremely rare pre-production car, potentially from 1972, got lost in the latest auction. In November 2025 it sold for just £1350. I really hope the new owner finds this page and finds out just how rare it actually is. Only 30 pre-production XJ-S were made in 1972 for engine testing, drive testing, crash testing, emissions testing, etc. Most of them were destroyed. This might be the oldest surviving XJ-S apart from the prototypes in Australia.
