Car offered at:

www.hemmings.com/auction/1996-jaguar-xjs-etna-nh-665602

Seller's description:

Vehicle Location Etna, New Hampshire 03750

VIN SAJNX2744TC224799

Odometer 44,517

Engine 4.0-liter DOHC inline-six

Transmission Automatic

Exterior Color Signal Red

Interior Color Cashew leather

Seller Private

The seller reports owning this Jaguar for 13 years and storing it in a climate-controlled garage when not in use. The Carfax report covers through 2016 but shows no reported accident damage prior to that. He says he is selling to reduce his car collection.

POWERTRAIN

The AJ-16 4.0-liter DOHC inline-six in this XJS was rated at 237 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of peak torque when new. It rewarded the driver with smooth, spirited performance and even reasonable fuel economy. The owner says that the Jaguar’s engine is original and that it “starts fine and idles well with no smoke.” The powertrain has no leaks or weeps, and the four-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears with no unusual sounds, per the seller.

EXTERIOR

The seller states that the Jaguar’s Signal Red paint is original and in good condition, though photos show red paint on the rear underside, which does not appear as done by the factory. The seller affirms there is “no rust,” and photos seem to support this. He indicates a small dent where another driver opened his door into the Jag’s door. The power convertible top works as intended, and the glass and windows are in good shape and with good seals, he reports, also affirming that all lighting works as intended.

INTERIOR

The interior leather color appears to be Cashew. The seller reports that the car’s carpet is in good condition, and the polished wood interior trim is intact. Photos do not show fading or delamination, just some dust and minor scuffs on the center console. The seats are in “good shape,” and the headliner is “fine,” per the seller. The automatic climate control system (heat and A/C) and the power windows, side mirrors, and door locks are functioning as intended, he states. The instrument panel gauges and warning lights are said to work properly, as is the original cassette stereo with trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer. This car is equipped with driver and passenger front airbags.

CHASSIS

The seller reports that the Jaguar has never had a suspension service under his care but says the bushings and shocks are “fine.” He does not know the tires’ age, and DOT manufacturing date codes could not be seen in the photos, so bidders should assume they may need replacement. The factory alloy wheels have no curb rash, pitting, or vibrations, according to the seller. He affirms the power-assisted steering tracks straight and has no leaks. He reports no issues or warning lights for the antilock four-wheel disc brakes.

DOCUMENTATION

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Hampshire title in his name. He will also include the remote entry key fobs. This 1996 Jaguar XJS Convertible was the last of its kind, capping a long run for this successful model. The seller reports no immediate issues or needs for the car, other than perhaps set of new tires. Especially in this color, the Jaguar XJS is sure to draw attention everywhere it goes.

Seller's description:

You are looking at an exceptionally well kept, great looking classic Jaguar XJS L6 luxury convertible automobile, one of the finest series that Jaguar makes. This is the rare XJS model - not many of these original Jaguars left. This car says a lot about its owner, and has been renowned in the world as a symbol of prestige and class, as well as having great performance.

The vehicle has been made and assembled entirely in England! It's been very well kept and serviced; in fact it runs almost like a new car. It’s a great looking exterior in burgundy red color which combined with the tan leather interior adds a lot of luxury appeal to it.

There are no reported manufacturer's defects on this vehicle. A never-smoked-in before beauty that looks great and smells clean.

The engine is an exceptional L6 - runs strong and smooth provides the power you have come to expect from a Jaguar. The transmission has the Jaguar mark on it as well and shifts like on a new car, no skips or slips on shifts. The car runs great! The engine compartment is clean, and free of any leaks. All the electrical options appear to be in working order.

As you can judge for yourself from the pictures - the interior is clean while the seats show almost no wear! Extensive Leather and wood trim adds a true luxury touch.

This Jaguar was built during the Ford ownership of Jaguar Ltd so all the electrics are excellent along with other items! Extra comfort comes from heated seats on both front seats, and extensive lumbar support . If you want a video of the top going up and down, send me your email address so I can send it to you.

Not many of those Jaguars were made for the US, this is your chance to own a truly unique luxurious sport convertible that stands out. It’s obviously been garage kept, and is in great condition.
