ALL ORIGINAL WITH JUST UNDER 66,000MILES ON THE CLOCK!! THAT STILL TURNS HEADS!

I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON EBAY 10 WEEKS AGO AND HAVE DRIVEN AROUND THE US IN 10 WEEKS. UNFORTUNATELY FOR PERSONAL REASONS, I HAVE TO RETURN TO AUSTRALIA.

WHILST DRIVING AROUND I’VE SPENT $5000 ON SERVICES AND UPGRADES TO THIS CAR, THE RESULT OF WHICH IT HAS GONE FROM A STATIC GARAGE PIECE TO A RELIABLE DAILY DRIVER. WHILST DRIVING AROUND THE US, I HAVE SEEN THE BEST JAG MECHANICS AND RESTORERS IN COLORADO, TEXAS AND FLORIDA. MOST HAVE HAD A TWEAK AT IT. THE CONCLUSION WAS THAT THIS CAR IS UNIQUE IN THE FACT THE ENGINE RUNS VERY COLD. (WATER TEMPERATURE) IN FACT ONE COMMENT FROM A GUY IN FLORIDA WAS THAT THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONLY V12 THAT DOES.

IT RUNS COOL BECAUSE ACCORDING TO ONE MECHANIC THAT LOOKED AT THE CAR, SOMEONE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY MODIFYING THE FUEL RAIL TO THAT OF A LATER ENGINE MODEL, THIS MODIFICATION NOT ONLY REDUCES THE CHANCE OF FUEL FIRE BUT ALSO PUTS A THERMO SWITCH IN A BETTER LOCATION. THIS SWITCH VARIES THE FUEL FLOW RATE TO MAINTAIN INJECTOR TEMP AT OR BELOW 150F. THIS IS ACHIEVED BY ACTUATORS IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. SIMPLE BUT CRITICAL CONCEPT, BETTER TEMPERATURE CONTOL = BETTER ENGINE TEMPERATURE. MOST JAG ENGINES DO NOT HAVE THIS CONTOL AND CERTAINLY NO OTHER 1986 V12’S.

THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF THE MAJOR REPAIRS I’VE HAD DONE IN THE LAST 10 WEEKS. NEW TOP + BOTTOM STEERING BALL JOINTS, NEW LEFT REAR BRAKE ROTOR, NEW FUEL PUMP, NEW SOCK IN RESERVE FUEL TANK, NEW HIGH OUTPUT BATTERY, NEW TYRE, NEW BRAKE PADS, NEW SERVOS IN HEATER/AIRCON CONTROL PANEL, NEW SAFETY NEUTRAL SWITCH, NEW JVC CD/RADIO (IPOD READY). NEW FUEL AND OIL FILTERS, NEW CAP FOR BRAKE FLUID RESERVE.

THE CAR RUNS GREAT AND HAS NO MOTOR ISSUES. FOR THE YEAR THE, BODY, INTERIOR AND PAINT ARE IN VERY GOOD OVERALL CONDITION

THE CAR ABSOLUTELY LIVES UP TO IT’S DESIGN CRITERION. I.E. A HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY EATER. IT’S SITS ON 80MPH AT 3000RPM WITH AN AVERAGE FUEL CONSUMPTION OF 17 MPG. THE ON BOARD TRIP COMPUTER HELPS ONE MODIFY ONES DRIVING HABITS.

IT’S TOP SPEED IS SUPPOSED TO BE 147MPH AND I HAVE NO DOUBT OF THAT. I FOUND A SECTION OF HIGHWAY IN THE BACK OF KANSAS AND PUT THE RIGHT FOOT DOWN. IN A BLINK IT WAS UP TO 120MPH AND REALLY STARTING TO ACCLERATE. SOMEWHERE AROUND THE 5000RPM MARK WITH LOADS TO GO. I HAD A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE AND WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO RED LINING THE CAT. THEN A STATE TROOPER STUCK HIS BONNET OUT FROM BEHIND THE SIGN. I SLAMMED ON THE 4 DISK BRAKES AND PULLED UP REAL QUICK, SO I’M NOT SURE WHAT HE CLOCKED ME AT.

FORTUNATELY HE WAS A STEVE IRWIN FAN AND I WAS ABLE TO BULLSHIT MY WAY OUT OF A FINE. I DIDN’T WANT TO PUSH MY LUCK SO I HAVEN’T TRIED AGAIN TO FIND OUT WHAT THE CAR IS REALLY CAPABLE OF. OTHER THAN THE ODD OVERTAKING OF 4-10 CARS AT A TIME. WHICH IT DOES EASILY AS IT ACCLERATES VERY QUICKLY FROM 80MPH. DUE TO THE ENGINES POWER BAND.

THE NEEDS: THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS NEED LATHING,(SLIGHT LOW SPEED BRAKE PULSATION) THE HEADLINER NEEDS RE-GLUEING (MATERIAL IS GOOD). THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS.

I REALLY LOVE THE CAR, BUT FOR THE RIGHT OFFER I WILL LET IT GO. BUT, TO BE HONEST I HOPE YOU DON’T BID ON IT, SO I CAN JUSTIFY HOLDING ONTO IT FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS AND REALISING THE CAPITAL GAIN. IT A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF AN EIGHTIES SUPERCAR AND WILL ONLY APPRECIATE IN VALUE.

THIS CAR WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITTION TO ANY RESPECTABLE CAR COLLECTION.

MY KEY ISSUE IS NOT THE CAR. IT’S THE FACT I DON’T LIVE IN THE US AND A LEFT HAND DRIVE CAR IS NOT ALLOWED IN AUSTRALIA.

I AM FLYING OUT OF THE US ON 30TH MARCH 2007

I CAN HONESTLY SAY I’VE OWNED ABOUT 20 CARS AND TRUCKS IN MY LIFE AND ALTHOUGH THIS CAT IS NOT THE MOST EXPENSIVE, IT DEFINITELY TURNS THE MOST HEADS AND IS THE MOST FUN TO DRIVE.

I MEAN 300 PONIES UNDER YOUR RIGHT FOOT IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE FUN!

WHAT DOES THIS CAR REALLY NEED ABOVE AND BEYOND THE MINOR MECHANICAL DETAILS:. A TRICK PAINT JOB. BECAUSE WHATEVER ANYONE TELLS YOU 20 YEAR OLD PAINT IS STILL 20 YEAR OLD PAINT. NEON UNDERNEATH WOULD LOOK COOL TOO.

IN CONCLUSION: A RARE CAT WITH AN EXTREMELY RARE IF NOT UNIQUE COOL-RUNNING ENGINE. ALL ON A BUDGET THAT DOESN’T BREAK THE BANK. WHAT MORE CAN A MAN ASK FOR?

GOOGLE XJS AND LOOK FOR COMMON PROBLEMS, YOU WILL LOADS OF WARNINGS ABOUT THE COOLING SYSTEM AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THIS CAR DOESN’T HAVE ANY COOLING PROBLEMS AND THE ELECTRICAL STUFF HAS ALL BEEN SORTED OUT.

THE PHOTOS SHOW TWO DISTINCT PLATE NUMBERS . THE CURRENT REGISTRATION IS 992FJO and is registered in MA to a Colorado address. The other plates are the old ones when I bought the car 10 weeks ago. But I used his photos.
