This classy Jaguar XJS V12 represents the pinnacle of British automotive engineering for 1988. Originally introduced as coupes, starting in 1986, a full convertible version was available through some Jaguar dealers. Founded in 1876, legendary Hess & Eisenhardt Coachbuilders were the exclusive firm charged with the convertible modification. Hess & Eisenhardt built 893 of these cars under contract from Jaguar before the official Jaguar-built XJS full convertible appeared in mid-1988. The Hess & Eisenhardt convertible differedfrom the later Jaguar convertible XJS as its unpadded top folded down deeper into the body structure of the car resulting in a cleaner rear profile when the roof was lowered. As the premier name plate in British automotive luxury, this Jaguar also provides ample power, with its unique multipoint injected 5.3-liter V12 that produces a stout 277 horsepower mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The double-wishbone suspension is equipped with antiroll bars as well as power four-wheel disc brakes and power steering.
