Car was at auction in 2020

Auction description:

Sapphire Blue

Cream leather

4.0L

VIN SAJJNAFD3EJ222782

Lot #00990

private Sale

Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom

This Jaguar XJS Celebration Convertible is a stylish British classic, presented in a superb factory colour scheme, and with just one private owner from new. It is powered by the 238bhp 4.0-litre ‘AJ16’ straight-six, coupled to a smooth four-speed ZF automatic transmission. The odometer shows 65,998 miles from new.

Built in 1995, this XJ-S is among the last examples built, and benefits from the ‘last of the line’ model improvements. The AJ16 engine in particular was enhanced with coil-on-plug ignition with no distributor, a new engine management system, upgraded pistons and magnesium alloy valve covers. Commemorating 60 years of Jaguar Cars, this is a ‘Celebration’ specification convertible with diamond-turned wheels, embossed seats, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. First registered in August 1995, it is now offered for sale after 25 years in single ownership.

The bodywork is in excellent condition with factory shut lines, having never suffered from any accident damage. The Sapphire Blue paint finish has a wonderful deep shine across the panels, as the detailed photos in the gallery below show. A few small superficial imperfections are visible on the bumpers in the images, but the seller has polished these out since the photoshoot.

Its fabric hood is dark blue, and presents in superb order with no rips or tears, and with a rear screen that is free of clouding. The tonneau cover is cream leather to match the interior. The car rides on 16-inch five-spoke chromed alloy wheels, which have a few very minor marks but which are generally in very good order. All of the other brightwork looks smart, with no damage to the mirror caps, window surrounds, or front grille and headlight trims.

Inside, the cream leather upholstery is in superb condition, with only a few small marks around the trim. The seats are still holding their shape well, and while there is some slight wear noticeable on the driver’s base and bolsters, the leather is in great shape for a 25-year-old unrestored car. Factory-fitted equipment includes air-conditioning, cruise control, and a boot-mounted CD changer connected to the original Jaguar radio and cassette head unit.

Over the last few years, the car has been driven sparingly, with only 1,500 miles covered since 2014, and is currently under a valid SORN certificate. Its last scheduled maintenance was in June 2017 at 65,647 miles, when it received a service and adjustment of the front wheel bearings. An ABS warning light came on during 2019, but this was attended to by specialist S.E. Jags in Charlton with the fitment of a replacement motor pump and module. The rear trailing arm bushes were noted as worn during the most recent service, and the coil springs may need replacing soon.

Previous recent services were carried out in June 2016 at 65,538 miles, and in June 2015 at 65,339 miles. The latter also included replacement of the front and rear brake flexi hoses, as well as new front anti-roll bar bushes.

The most recent MOT took place on 21 July 2020 at 65988 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The tyres are all in good condition with plenty of tread - and there is a full-size unused matching spare in the boot.

Accompanying the car is the original owner’s handbook and user guides, plus a replacement stamped maintenance record covering services from new until 2003. MOT history then evidences the mileage to 2012, from where there are invoices on file. An almost complete tool kit is also present, with only one cross-head screwdriver missing.

This Jaguar XJS Celebration Convertible is a very smart example of a classy British tourer, presented in honest and impressive overall condition. A great modern classic to take out on B-roads during the warm summer weather, this is also a collectable ‘final generation’ model with a very elegant specification, offered by its first and only owner.

Car at auction 5/24

www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2024-05-11/cars/ref-8-1985-jaguar-xjs-celebr ...

Auction description:

Farnborough International Exhibition Centre

Lot Number 239 Registration N421 RNH Chassis Number SAJJNAFD3EJ222782 Engine Number 9LPFRB137055 Odometer reading 66,500 miles Estimate £24,000 - £28,000

This wonderful example was registered new on 1st August 1995 and was delivered new to its one lady owner. Having covered a mere 66,500 miles from new the XJS is in very good order throughout presented in arguably the most desirable colour combination of sapphire blue over cream leather interior. The paintwork retains a deep shine and the interior and engine bay are very presentable. Offered with a history file containing the original service booklet with relevant service stamps, sundry bills and invoices, various old MoT records, and the current registration document showing its one owner from new. This is an unrepeatable opportunity, and we expect it will be keenly contested at auction. Consigned by Daniel Godin.
