Residing in Jaguar’s Heritage Collection in the UK, the original Jaguar XJ13 is world famous.
This is the second most famous XJ13 in the world, featured on the top-rating UK television program ‘Top Gear’, where it was tested by former Formula 1 and Le Mans driver Tiff Needell. The video of that feature has been viewed millions of times on YouTube.
Despite this fame, this first-ever replica of the XJ13 – built by UK firm Proteus in 1992 – almost immediately went into the large and very private collection of a prominent European industrialist and all but disappeared from public view.
That was until 2016, when the collection was dispersed, and the XJ13 was offered by tender by Bonhams Auctioneers, with our vendor being the successful and delighted purchaser.
And so, the world’s first Jaguar XJ13 replica arrived here in mid-2017 having covered barely 78 miles in its lifetime during original testing, an appearance at Goodwood, and the ‘Top Gear’ filming.
Keen to experience what his new XJ13 replica had to offer, the sleek Jaguar prototype racer was soon taken to Queensland Raceway for a shakedown outing, for what was only the fifth time it had been run despite being completed 25 years before. A minor brake problem stopped play on that first outing but since then, the Proteus replica has visited the track twice more and needed only replacement of its original tyres.
This XJ13 replica remains is in immaculate condition throughout and with it comes a large history file, various paperwork, a copy of Jaguar Magazine in which it is featured, and relevant receipts.
Regarded by many as the best Jaguar XJ13 replica ever made, and certainly the most famous, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
